This course will prepare you for a career within Government, Not-for-Profit and Private legal industry stake-holders.  Study topics include legal framework, compliance, maintaining professional practice and developing and nurturing professional relationships. This is followed with specific units in criminal law, family law, property law (conveyancing), civil procedures, wills and probate matters together with developing research and analytical skills.

You will become familiar with recent developments within specific areas of the legal system such as domestic and family violence and youth justice.   Possible job outcomes include executive assistant, legal support officer or support worker, paralegal, conveyancing clerk, policy and procedure officer or senior legal secretary.

Students have gone on to use their skills and knowledge learnt from this course to gain employment in Law Firms specialising in different areas of law, Legal Aid Queensland, Corrective Services, Child Safety, Community Centres and various other community groups and this is just a small example of how you can benefit yourself and the community. Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria for this qualification;

  • Year 10 or equivalent.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Important Information

Study is structured into fixed intakes which have set durations (completion date is 12 weeks from the commencement date of each intake). Study can be commenced at the beginning of each intake, with dates as follows:

January:

  • Study duration: 29/01/2018 - 20/04/2018

Students will be able to access the online course content from the first day of each intake.

Please note that you must be enrolled in order to access the online learning materials.

Students may enrol in up to 2 units of competency per intake, to ensure management of study load.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
