How to enrol

Anne-Marie Chemello

Let's celebrate the carers

I definitely believe that nurses need to or should have a caring and helpful nature. I like to think of myself as a caring person throughout my life but nursing, especially in aged care, has really helped and taught me so much and helped me grow as a person.

Placement

Vocational Placement

Vocational Placement is an essential component of this qualification. Students will undertake 200 placement hours in an aged care facility organised by TAFE Queensland Brisbane. This placement will take place after the successful completion of class room activities and prescribed assessments. Students will be required to work the shifts determined by the placement provider and these will include mornings (commencing at 6am), evenings (finishing at 11pm) and possibly some night shifts between Monday and Sunday. Students are expected to have in place strategies to manage family and work commitments in order to meet vocational placement shifts. The vocational placement may be within any aged care facility within the South East Queensland corner and may include holiday periods.  Students will continue to be assessed against prescribed units of competency undertaken during their vocational placement.  If their assessment results are unsatisfactory they will be deemed not competent against those prescribed units.
