Placement

Applicants who are not currently employed in a sterilising department (hospital or office-based) are required to complete a 120 hour vocational placement in a sterilisation facility. To undertake this program, applicants will be required to have access to such a facility and can be assessed as part of their normal working hours. TAFE Queensland Brisbane is able to provide participants with a list of vocational placement hosts. Please note due to the high number of students completing placements, students are required to be flexible. It is also understood students may have preferences for specific hospitals and/or periods of times however there is no guarantee this is possible due to industry availabilities.

Applicants who are not currently working in the sterilising industry are required to provide evidence of having received at least 2 of 3 Hepatitis B vaccinations prior to the commencement of vocational placement. Applicants who have been previously immunised will need to provide evidence of having sero-converted; either by a letter from their GP or a pathology report. Those who are unable to sero-convert should seek advice from a medical practitioner prior to enrolling.
