Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry requirements however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria:

  • Completion of Year 10 or equivalent; and,
  • Proof of successful vaccination against Hepatitis B must be provided by the student as part of the vocational placement requirements; and,
  • Skills in gathering and communicating information equivalent to Senior English will be required to successfully complete this Program.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Students have the opportunity to complete 35 hours vocational placement in a pathology laboratory during the duration of the course which is organised by TAFE.

Please note: Two (2) doses or proof of successful vaccination against Hepatitis B must be provided by the student as part of the vocational placement requirements. This requirement is mandatory.

This documentation must be supplied by week six (6) of the course

Students will be responsible for any costs associated with meeting these entry requirements.

Please note that students can only enrol into 1 (one) Pathology stream at a time due to the availability of placements.

  • 7 weeks face-to-face plus
  • 5 weeks which includes 35 hours of placement, self-directed assessments and resubmissions

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of subsidised courses.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Living in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.
