Study Dental Services at TAFE Queensland Brisbane

Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria for this qualification;

  • Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent with a sound achievement in English.
  • Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Placement

Work Experience is a beneficial component of this qualification. Students are required to undertake 30 days of work experience in a dental laboratory during the 2nd year of the qualification.

Work Experience may be completed in any Dental Laboratory within the South East Queensland corner and undertaken following successful completion of the 1st year activities and practical assessments.

These days in the work place environment are recommended by industry to enhance technical knowledge and skill.

Students will be required to work the times determined by the Dental Laboratory whilst being considerate of their classroom requirements.

Students are expected to have in place strategies to manage family and work commitments in order to meet work experience days.

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply

Concession

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.
