Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria:

  • Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent with a Sound Achievement in English and Mathematics and a Sound Achievement in Year 10 Science; or,
  • Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies

To be successful students need to possess strong communication skills and the ability to work efficiently under high pressure situations which is present in the workplace.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Placement

All applicants must be willing to undertake clinical placement in a health care facility during the program. Students are required to organise their own travel to and from these facilities.

Before commencing clinical placement, students must meet the following mandatory requirements:

  1. Obtain, and provide evidence of a current Australian First Aid Certificate
  2. Have current competency in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - this must be updated annually;
  3. Provide evidence of Hepatitis B vaccination or blood test results showing immunity (NB a complete vaccination course takes a minimum of three months to complete);
  4. Provide an Australian Federal Police Certificate (cost $42.00) indicating that the student has passed the Australian Federal Police (National) Check. Please contact the Australian Federal Police on (02) 6206 3333 or visit www.afp.gov.au. (NOTE: A state based police check will not be accepted).
  5. Obtain a Blue Card (Working with Children Check). Please phone 1800 113 611 or visit www.bluecard.qld.gov.au

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply
