Study sports and recreation at TAFE Queensland Brisbane

Energise your health and fitness career with a boost from TAFE Queensland Brisbane. Our sport and fitness certificate and diploma qualifications train you in all aspects of fitness and sports instruction. Our teachers are no slouches - you'll learn about creating training programs for different needs, diet and nutrition, group dynamics, and how to manage injuries.

Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria for this qualification;

  • This course is suitable for any person wanting to work in the fitness industry. A demonstrated personal interest and involvement in fitness actvities is recommended.
  • Where competition for places is high completion of Year 12 and/or vocational education will be well regarded

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system "Connect", and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Access to the internet. Online resources and a fitness shirt are included as part of the course fee. Students will need to purchase stationery items, including four (4) A4 display folders for assessment.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of subsidised courses.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Living in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.
