Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria; however, TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria for this qualification:

  • school-leavers must have completed Year 12 or equivalent

OR

  • non school-leavers will be selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies
  • skills in gathering and communicating information equivalent to Senior English
  • basic level Word processing and spreadsheeting skills
  • prior completion of a Certificate II in Information Technology or similar is highly recommended if current IT skills are not held.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system "Connect", and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Placement

Vocational placement

There is one block of at least 100 hours of supervised vocational placement in the diploma. This block is conducted in a three week period in the first half of 2nd semester. Vocational placement are arranged by negotiation between the student, the vocational placement coordinator, and the host library. A formal agreement must be signed before a placement begins. Students are assessed against prescribed units from the diploma during their placement. If their assessment results are unsatisfactory, they will be deemed not competent against those prescribed units.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Additional costs

Students are required to purchase textbooks costing between $80 and $160 each semester depending on units taken. Some textbooks are used in more than one unit.

Students can also access a range of print, copy, scan and fax services via MyPrint.
