Are you enthusiastic and motivated? Would you like to lead and manage people in the hospitality Industry? This diploma will give you the edge on how to succeed in hospitality management. It's an opportunity to progress through the ranks by gaining greater levels of experience in supervisory roles. Designed to improve your ability to lead and manage, it's the perfect qualification to guide you in the right direction. Your studies will include staff rostering and good business practices, budgeting and finances, office skills, marketing and business writing. Students will participate in ‘live’ restaurant service in our training restaurant so your timetable will include a variety of day and evening classes.

Upon successful completion of this diploma, you have the ability to articulate to Griffith University for Bachelor of Business (Hotel Management) with credit points equivalent to one full-time year of degree study. Course details

Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria for this qualification;

  • School leavers must have completed Year 12 or equivalent with a Sound Achievement in English and Mathematics or
  • Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies or
  • Successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate III or higher in any area of study requiring formal written communication and numeracy skills.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

COTAH is a hub of industry activity with frequent visits from Hospitality employers to all campuses and we have a strong commitment to showing our students and our College in the best light - with professional presentation a must for this customer facing industry, Therefore Uniforms for Hospitality are compulsory across all TAFE Queensland Brisbane campuses. Uniforms are to be worn at all times on and off campus, theory and practical, plus during any/all excursions. This ensures that our students are recognised by Industry as highly employable graduates with impeccable standards of presentation and dress. 

Uniform provisions include the below and have been included in the course fees:

  • 1 Mandarin jacket
  • 1 Apron
  • 2 stripe shirts
  • 1 jacket 
  • 1 tie or scarf

Study Abroad

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply
