Money makes the world go round, and accounting graduates are always in demand. In the Diploma of Accounting you will learn how to prepare income tax returns, manage budgets and forecasts, prepare financial reports, implement and maintain internal control procedures, and provide management accounting advice. This qualification meets the minimum academic requirements with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) for registration as a BAS agent. Career opportunities are varied and span the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. Possible roles include positions in public and property accounting, business services, manufacturing, banking, and insurance.  Course details

Direct entry, year 10 or equivalent.

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Important Information

It is recommended that students who enrol in the Diploma of Accounting (12 month program) be familiar with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word;
It is also recommended that prospective students who are not confident with this software should enrol in the units BSBITU306 and BSBITU304 in the FNS30315 Certificate III in Accounts Administration or BSB30415 Certificate III in Business Administration to improve their skills-set.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

  • are an Australian citizen; or
  • are a New Zealand Special Category Visa holder who meets long-term residency requirements; or
  • are a permanent humanitarian visa holder (resident in Australia for the duration of the unit); AND
  • have not exceeded the FEE HELP limit (see below); AND
  • have an Australian Tax File Number (TFN) or Certificate of Application for a TFN; AND
  • can provide a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); or
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Concession

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability. Additional costs

Any required textbooks/workbooks for the program must be purchased by the student at an approximate cost:

  • $500 for students completing the whole Diploma of Accounting.
  • $250 for those students who are going on from Certificate IV in Accounting/Bookkeeping to Diploma of Accounting.
