Dance to the beat of your own career in the music industry with skills in music and sound production from TAFE Queensland Brisbane. We will help you combine your creative talent with technical knowledge so that you can produce top-rate musical entertainment. Learn performance, theory, technical and production skills from teachers who are practicing musos and sound production specialists. A TAFE Queensland certificate or diploma qualification will set you apart in this competitive industry. Past students are working as DJs, musicians, producers, recorders and technicians.

Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria, however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria for this qualification:

  • Year 10 (or equivalent) is recommended
  • Basic ability to sing or play an instrument (This is not a program for applicants wanting to begin learning an instrument)

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of subsidised courses.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Living in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

Concession

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability. There are no additional costs, however students may incur costs to own personal instruments and supporting musical interests.

If you want to go on to further study at university, TAFE Queensland has a pathway option to get you there. In many cases, completing one of our diplomas will give you a full year of credit towards a degree with one of our partner universities. At the beginning of each semester we host orientation events across our locations so you can meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule. We also throw in a bunch of free activities, because... why not? We like to have fun.
