Study sports and recreation at TAFE Queensland Brisbane

Energise your health and fitness career with a boost from TAFE Queensland Brisbane. Our sport and fitness certificate and diploma qualifications train you in all aspects of fitness and sports instruction. Our teachers are no slouches - you'll learn about creating training programs for different needs, diet and nutrition, group dynamics, and how to manage injuries.

Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria; however, TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria for this qualification:

  • completion of Year 12 or equivalent, or
  • non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies, or
  • currently employed in the industry

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Did you know you can also pursue work as personal trainers if you enrol into additional units from SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness? The extra units are at an additional cost of $1000 and can be completed simultaneously whilst enrolled in SIS50612 Diploma of Sport Development! Upon successful completion of all units (both Diploma level units and the additional units) you will be eligible for two awards - SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness and SIS50612 Diploma of Sport Development.

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
