Study sports and recreation at TAFE Queensland Brisbane

Energise your health and fitness career with a boost from TAFE Queensland Brisbane. Our sport and fitness certificate and diploma qualifications train you in all aspects of fitness and sports instruction. Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however TAFE Queensland has the following selection criteria:

  • Completion of Year 12 or equivalent, or
  • Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Placement

During this qualification you will be required to undertake a 120 hours of Vocational Placement within the Brisbane Roar Football Club and their feeder clubs. Due to the nature of sport a large portion of this placement will need to be conducted nights and weekends, particularly in the second semester of the program. This placement will be organised by TAFE Queensland and will occur within the greater Brisbane area.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply

Orientation

At the beginning of each semester we host orientation events across our locations so you can meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule. We also throw in a bunch of free activities, because... why not? We like to have fun.
