Early Childhood Education and Care employees have the future in their hands! Educating and caring for young children during their formative years is a privilege and a great responsibility. There is clear evidence that the early years of a child's life are very important for their present and future health, development and well-being. TAFE Queensland Brisbane will help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to provide high quality care and plan developmentally appropriate experiences that will maximise the chances of children reaching their full potential.

Entry requirements

Students must be employed as an trainee and have a signed Registered Training Contract, stating TAFE Queensland Brisbane is the Supervising Registered Training Organisation (SRTO).

Trainees are required to be employed for a minimum of 15 hours per week and employers will be required to undergo an employer resource assessment. All employees in the childcare industry are required to undergo a criminal record check, (Child Care Act 1991).

The Queensland Government's Apprenticeships Info website provides information about apprenticeships and traineeships (including school-based) in Queensland.

Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Placement

Students participating in compulsory vocational placement will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check and receive a positive notice and Blue Card.

Please be aware in some instances organisations may require students to undertake a Federal Police Check (cost $42) and or apply for a Blue Card for placement.

Year 12 graduates: start trade training fee free, here’s how.

To be eligible to access fee-free training, you must:

  • have completed Year 12 in Queensland and hold a Senior Statement issued by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority or equivalent certification
  • enrol and start an apprenticeship, traineeship or training, with an approved training provider in a high priority qualification by the end of the calendar year following completion of Year 12
  • permanently reside in Queensland.

Disclaimer

Not all electives available at all campuses

Eligible apprentices and trainees that meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a student contribution fee of $1.60 per nominal hour. For more information on the number of units funded for this course visit Queensland Training Information Services.

Nominal hours for each unit will be outlined in the agreed training plan, which will be provided to the employer and apprentice or trainee, at the time of induction.

Non-funded apprentices and trainees will be charged a fee for service cost. The student and employer contribution fee will be outlined in the training plan and agreed to, prior to the commencement of training.

Federal incentives may be available for employers, apprentices and trainees. Visit the Australian Apprenticeships website for more information.

Students are required to purchase and wear the TAFE QLD Brisbane Polo shirt while on vocational placement. Apply for a Blue Card for placement.

Students can also access a range of print, copy, scan and fax services via MyPrint.
