Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria:

  • Completion of Year 10 or equivalent.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

As part of this program, students will be required to assist with young children's health, safety and care needs. This may include nappy changing, toileting, manual handling, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, and interactions with parents and professionals. A general maturity is required to meet the duty of care obligations of the services provided to young children.

Please note: The duration of your course will vary depending on prior experience with assessments and industry knowledge.

Placement

The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care requires a minimum of 120 hours to be completed in a registered and licensed children's service over the period of the qualification. Allocated study hours will vary depending on students prior experience with assessments and industry.

Placement must occur for the full duration of study in the qualification. Applicants are expected to source a service suitable in their area. Support can be given upon request.

For students who are existing workers, you must notify the team of your service/employer before commencing to ensure it is an approved service that can be used as your placement.

Important Information

All students are required to have a working with children check (Blue Card) prior to undertaking their vocational placement. If you are a registered teacher or work as a police officer you can apply for an exemption card.

Study is structured into fixed intakes which have set durations (completion date is 12 weeks from the commencement date of each intake). Study can be commenced at the beginning of each intake, with dates as follows:

August:

  • Study duration: 07/08/2017 - 27/10/2017

September:

  • Study duration: 25/09/2017 - 15/12/2017

Students can access the online course content from the first day of each intake.

Please note that you must be enrolled in order to access the online learning materials.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of subsidised courses.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Living in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

If you're a Queensland resident, have just finished year 12 and are keen to start your studies within the next calendar year, you might be eligible to study fee free!

The Queensland government has identified a number of industries with a high demand for trained workers. To help fill these gaps, they will pay the full cost of a number of certificate III qualifications in high-priority study areas under the Certificate 3 Guarantee and User Choice programs.

We want school leavers to gain the important skills and training they need before starting their university studies or careers - debt-free.
