Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria:

  • Completion of year 10 or equivalent.

This program requires a responsibility for planning, implementing, and managing programs in early childhood services, in accordance with licensing, accreditation, and duty of care requirements.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Vocational Placement Requirements

  • All students are required to have a working with children check (Blue Card) prior to undertaking their vocational placement. For further information go to Blue Card.
  • If you are a registered teacher or work as a police officer you can apply for an exemption card.

Resources required

Login to the Student Self Service to update your personal details and check your grades, and login to Connect to study your course! For new students, your username and password will be sent to you after enrolment. For existing students, please use your existing information.

Students can elect to purchase additional resources available at QLD Textbook Warehouse. Please refer to the Relevant Documents section below for resource details.

Please note: The duration of your course will vary depending on prior experience with assessments and industry knowledge.

Placement

The Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care requires a minimum of 240 hours to be completed in a registered and licensed children's service over the period of the qualification. Allocated study hours will vary depending on student's prior experience with assessments and experience in industry.

Placement must occur for the full duration of study in the qualification. Applicants are expected to source a service suitable in their area. Support can be given upon request.

For students who are existing workers, you must notify the team of your service/employer before commencing to ensure it is an approved service that can be used as your placement.

Important Information

Study is structured into fixed intakes with set durations (completion date is 12 weeks from the commencement date of each intake). Study can be commenced at the beginning of each intake, with dates as follows:

August:

  • Study duration: 07/08/2017 - 27/10/2017

Students will be able to access the online course content from the first day of each intake.

Please note that you must be enrolled in order to access the online learning materials.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply
