This bridging program has been developed to assist Queensland registered primary-trained teachers, who wish to work in early childhood services and gain early childhood education and care qualifications. This program recognises that the skill set of these teachers is relevant to the early childhood education and care vocational education and training qualifications. Upon completion of the diploma, you will be equipped with necessary skills to plan, implement and manage programs in early childhood services (0 – 6 years) in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements. Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry requirement however enrolment into this program is via an application process. Please phone 1300 712 007 for more information.

  • Students must have a primary teaching qualification (e.g. Bachelor of Primary Education) or similar and be a registered teacher in Queensland with the Queensland College of Teachers.
  • Experience teaching in primary schools is preferred. Primary school teachers are only able to apply, secondary teachers are not eligible.

If students do not meet this criteria, please enquire about the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care – Online.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Placement

Students participating in compulsory vocational placement will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check and receive a positive notice and Blue Card.

Important Information

Please be aware in some instances organisations may require students to undertake a Federal Police Check (cost $42) and or apply for a Blue Card for placement.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply

Concession

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.
