Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria:

  1. Successful completion of Year 10 in the Australian secondary school system or its equivalent; or,
  2. Mature age (over 18 years) Sound levels of literacy and numeracy are essential for successful completion of this qualification.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

Login to the Student Self Service to update your personal details and check your grades, and login to Connect to study your course! For new students, your username and password will be sent to you after enrolment. For existing students, please use your existing information.

Students will be required to purchase additional resources available at Qld Textbook Warehouse.  Please refer to the Relevant Documents section below for resource details.

Placement

Vocational Placement is an essential component of this qualification. Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours placement by Cluster 7. Students are to source their own placement, in either a primary or secondary school environment. Students are to negotiate the VPC placement with their chosen school. This placement will be in addition to online assessments. It is recommended you attend for one day per week for the duration of your studies.  Students will be assessed against prescribed clusters of competency undertaken during their vocational placement. Students must hold a Blue Card (Working with Children Check) before commencing vocational placement.  For further information go to Blue Card. If you are a registered teacher or work as a police officer you can apply for an exemption card.

It is compulsory that all students are in a school vocational placement while studying this qualification either as a Volunteer or Employed Teacher Aide.

Students who are not employed as Teacher Aides are required to enrol in 'Vocational Placement VPC240' and attend Vocational Placement at a school for the duration of their studies. It is recommended that you attend for one day per week. Volunteer students must not exceed 240 hours of placement during the 18 month contract.

Employed Teacher Aides must complete an ‘Employment Validation Form’.

Important Information

Study is structured into fixed intakes which have set durations (completion date is 12 weeks from the commencement date of each intake). Study can be commenced at the beginning of each intake, with dates as follows:

August:

  • Study duration: 07/08/2017 - 27/10/2017

September:

  • Study duration: 25/09/2017 - 15/12/2017

Students will be able to access the online course content from the first day of each intake.

Please note that you must be enrolled in order to access the online learning materials.

There are 8 clusters and assessments are due in Week 2 and Week 9 for each cluster. You will be expected to commit to a minimum of 5 hours of study per week for each cluster to successfully complete your study and Vocational Placement of 1 day per week for Volunteers only. There will be an Online Room to attend during each cluster. Dates, times and access details will be available through the Connect calendar at the commencement of the Intake. It is expected that students attend to make themselves familiar with the requirements of the cluster.

​Recent year 12 graduates, who commence this qualification within the following calendar year, will be entitled to fee-free training under the state government’s Certificate 3 Guarantee and User Choice programs.

Units

The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete12 core and 5 elective units. Upon successful completion of all 17 units you will receive a Certificate III in Education Support.

This course is provided in clusters which can be purchased for completion in various intakes over the year. It is recommended students enrol into one cluster per intake – up to a maximum of two clusters per intake.

The Certificate III has 8 clusters and has an expected completion time of 12 to 18 months for the whole qualification.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of subsidised courses.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Living in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

The Queensland government has identified a number of industries with a high demand for trained workers. To help fill these gaps, they will pay the full cost of a number of certificate III qualifications in high-priority study areas under the Certificate 3 Guarantee and User Choice programs.

We want school leavers to gain the important skills and training they need before starting their university studies or careers - debt-free.

CHC30213 Certificate III in Education Support

Articulation Options: CHC40213 Certificate IV in Education Support - Online

Work as a Teacher Aide, School Officer or Education Support Worker in any government, church or independent primary or secondary school, environmental education centres, schools of distance education, community schools, special education units and schools and outside school hours care facilities.

The Queensland Department of Education and Training recognises this qualification in its salary structure for teacher aides. Formal qualifications may lead to additional salary increments.
