Develop your skills and experience in teaching spelling, grammar, pronunciation, reading and writing. This program is internationally recognised and can be used to help gain employment overseas. How to enrol

Master the English language at TAFE Queensland Brisbane

TAFE Queensland English Language and Literacy Services (TELLS) provides leadership, contract management and services to support the delivery of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) programme. These programs are funded by the Australian Government Department of Industry and delivered at TAFE locations across Queensland.

Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria for this qualification;

  • The minimum educational standard required for entry to this program for a student from an English-speaking background is a pass level or higher in English at the completion of Year 12.
  • Students from a non-English speaking background should have an English proficiency nationally equivalent to a minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 7.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Students will be utilising a text book, which has been included in the course fees.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply


You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability. Recognition of prior learning

Fast-track your way to a formal qualification by earning credit for the things you already know. Getting recognition for the skills you've gained from the workplace or previous learning means less study time for you, and getting the paper to prove you're qualified a whole lot sooner.

At the beginning of each semester we host orientation events across our locations so you can meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule. We also throw in a bunch of free activities, because... why not? We like to have fun.
