Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Brisbane has the following selection criteria for this qualification;

  • Year 10 or equivalent
  • Conditions apply, please contact the Animal Science Administration to discuss enrolment for 2018.

 If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

Delivered as a combination of lectures at South Bank and practical sessions at either Grovely or Loganlea. Students will be expected to attend up to three locations a week: South Bank and either Grovely or Loganlea and work experience at a Vet Practice. One day at South Bank, two practical days at Grovely OR Loganlea is anticipated.

Placement

In addition to study on campus at South Bank and Grovely or Loganlea, all students will undertake blocks of vocational placements in veterinary practices during semesters. If a full-time student is unsuccessful in finding a veterinary practice for placement, assistance will be provided by teachers of Animal Science.

Important Information

Your love of animals and your caring and compassionate nature are the perfect ingredients to commence a career in animal science. Enjoy learning about animal nutrition, hygiene, care and grooming, plus the business and administration side of the industry. You’ll be given hands-on instruction to help all kinds of fur babies and scaly friends.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply

Concession

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability. At the beginning of each semester we host orientation events across our locations so you can meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule. We also throw in a bunch of free activities, because... why not? We like to have fun.
