Entry requirements

One of the great things about TAFE Queensland is how accessible it is. Everyone deserves the chance to earn a nationally recognised qualification and take that first step towards a great career. That's why we take into account a combination of your qualifications, studies and experience when you apply to study with us.

Each course is different

For most courses, there are specific entry requirements may exist for young persons (under 18 years of age) who are in the compulsory school age/participation phase wishing to undertake training at TAFE Queensland Brisbane. But don't worry if you don't have that, there are other ways to get your foot in the door.

The table below gives you some idea of the academic requirements for different course types. But it's important to keep in mind that each course is different and the best thing to do is contact us for the latest course brochure for specific entry requirements:

 

Foundation skills courses (Certificate III and below)

Academic requirements

Year 10 or 11 or equivalent

Mature age

Year 10 or equivalent

Some programs may require Year 12 or equivalent. Check out your course brochure to find out.

18 and Under

If are seeking a alternative for completing secondary school, we can help you complete year 11 or 12 at TAFE. Or for any looking to undertake a combined school/TAFE pathway, our TAFE at School program can help you make great happen while attaining your QCE.

Alternatively, anyone under 18 years of age who is seeking to access night classes or weekend short courses with TAFE is encouraged to contact us directly.

Mature Age and Returning to Study

For those who have built up a wealth of experience volunteering or on the job, we can also take into account your skills, knowledge and experience through Recognition of prior learning.
