VET Student Loans commenced on 1 January 2017, replacing the current VET FEE-HELP scheme. TAFE Queensland Brisbane continues to offer eligible students enrolled in eligible programs a government loan for their studies at Diploma level and above, subject to eligibility criteria.
From 1 January 2017, the Commonwealth VET Student Loans program replaced the existing VET FEE-HELP loan program.
This Commonwealth Government program allows you to access loans for courses that:
TAFE Queensland Brisbane receives your tuition fees from the government and you repay your loan through the Australian tax system. When your income reaches the repayment threshold, you start making repayments until you have repaid the whole loan amount.
A VET Student Loan is only for tuition fees, and doesn't cover additional study costs such as your text books, materials and accommodation.
The program also has loan caps for course loans. This means if your course fees are above the loan cap, you will need to pay the difference, please discuss options with us to pay the difference.
For more information visit the Study Assist website or talk to your local TAFE Queensland team
You can continue to study under your VET FEE-HELP loan if you're an existing student and you'll finish your course before the end of 2017.
For all continuing VET FEE-HELP students, the Commonwealth Government has an "opt in" process:
For more information please contact the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training
*To opt in, you must have had a VET FEE-HELP loan approved with TAFE Queensland Brisbane that commenced and the first census date occurred prior to 1 January 2017, in your current program of study.
